Mauchline Ware: And Associated Scottish Souvenir Ware

Wooden souvenirs known as Mauchline ware developed from a unique wooden 'hidden-hinge' snuff box that was originally produced in Laurenoekirk in north east Scotland. However, by the beginning of the nineteenth century the secret of its manufacture had reached Ayrshire and, soon there were manufactories in several Ayrshire towns, notably Mauchline. This book describes the wide and varied range of products and the many finishes including transfer and photographic ware and the more colourful tartan and fern decoration.
