It's amazing that the voice of this modern John the Baptist was not recognized in the English-speaking world until almost a hundred years after his death in 1855. When Kierkegaard was finally translated, first into German and French, then English, he merged from the subconscious of an era, and his thinking had a stunning impact. Here were the ideas which a disillusioned world needed in order to understand what was going on in the twentieth century and beyond.
